An electronic vignette is a digital document confirming that the driver has paid the required toll for using toll roads in Slovakia. When a car passes through a checkpoint, cameras will check whether a valid vignette is linked to the registration number.
Electronic vignettes have been in use in Slovakia for several years now. Thanks to them, drivers do not need to stop at the border or buy special stickers. The PDF file containing the digital vignette should be saved on your mobile phone and shown during any checks – there is no need to print it out.

The toll system covers motorways and selected expressways. The price of a vignette depends on its validity period. Using Autopay, you can buy a vignette valid for 1 day, 10 days, 30 days or one year. Step 1
Log in to the Autopay app. If you don’t have an account yet, sign up via the app.

On the home screen, in the ‘Electronic vignettes’ section, select Slovakia.

Select a category, the duration of the vignette (1, 10 or 30 days, or one year) and the start date.

Check the details and pay. Once you have paid, you cannot return or amend the vignette.

Once you have paid, please wait for an email confirming that your vignette has been activated (PDF). You will also be able to view the vignette in the Autopay app. Do not drive on toll roads until you have received it.

Slovakia, like several other European countries, has introduced an electronic toll collection system for motorways and expressways. This means you can buy a vignette for Slovakia online using the Autopay app or the Autopay shop. Buying online allows you to register your vignette quickly and easily without having to stop at physical sales points.
In Slovakia, a vignette is not required on all roads, but is valid on most motorways and expressways. This is standard in many European countries, where road tolls are charged for the use of major expressways. Roads on which a vignette applies are usually marked accordingly. It is worth paying attention to the road signs indicating the obligation to have a vignette. A map of toll roads can be found above.
If you drive on Slovakian motorways and expressways without a valid vignette, you risk being fined. Driving without a valid vignette usually carries a fine of €150, reduced to €100 if paid within 15 days. In standard administrative proceedings, the fine ranges from €150 to €500, whilst the police may issue an on-the-spot fine of between €50 and €200. Purchasing a vignette after the fact does not cancel the fine. Fines for not having a vignette are enforced against both Slovak residents and foreign drivers.
