The A4 motorway (Małopolska Motorway) on the section from Katowice to Krakow is tolled.

A videotolling system is in operation on the A4 Katowice-Krakow section, which means you can pay for your journeys using Autopay.

Important!

The A4 Wrocław-Gliwice section (PPO Karwiany-PPO Sośnica) is covered by the government's e-TOLL system - from 1 July 2023, the journey is toll-free

How much does it cost to drive the A4?

The A4 motorway toll depends on the type of vehicle you drive and the payment method you choose (see descriptions of vehicle categories). The toll is collected at two gates - in Mysłowice and Balice.

A4 motorway tolls - as at April 2024.

Vehicle category Rate of fare
Cat. 1a 8 PLN (videotolling does not include motorbikes, so you will not pay the fare with Autopay)
Cat. 1 16 PLN
Cat. 2 29 PLN
Cat. 3 29 PLN
Cat. 4 49 PLN
Cat. 5 49 PLN

The above tolls are collected at each Toll Plaza, i.e. in Mysłowice and in Balice and constitute half of the toll for the entire Katowice-Kraków section of the A4.

Frequently asked questions about the service

The A4 motorway is partially tolled. Payments apply on the section from Katowice to Krakow. However, the sections from the German border to Wrocław and from Kraków to the Ukrainian border are free of charge.

The A4 motorway runs from the German border to the Ukrainian border, but tolls on the A4 are only charged on the Katowice-Krakow section.

The cost of driving on the A4 motorway depends on and the type of vehicle you are driving. For a category 1 vehicle, it costs PLN 32 to drive along the toll section of the A4 (as of April 2024).

Note: According to the price list of the A4 Kraków - Katowice motorway, 16 PLN is charged at each toll gate in Balice and Brzęczkowice. In the case of driving a full section of the A4, payment is 2x 16 PLN, i.e. 32 PLN.

Despite the fact that the A4 motorway runs through the whole of Poland - from the German border to the Ukrainian border - only the section from Katowice to Krakow, covered by the videotolling system, is tolled.

The section of the A4 Wrocław-Gliwice (PPO Karwiany-PPO So¶nica), which is covered by the government's e-TOLL system, was exempted from tolls on 1 July 2023.

Most of the campervans available for hire are vehicles with a maximum permissible gross weight of 3.5 t, which means that they are category 1 vehicles. Thus, driving a campervan on the toll section of the A4 (from Katowice to Krakow) costs PLN 32 (as of April 2024).

Małopolska Motorway (the A4 section from Katowice to Krakow) is covered by the videtolling system, so you can use Autopay automatic payments on it. If you wish to use another method, you can pay by cash (PLN, EUR, USD), payment card or fleet card.

You do not need to turn on the app (or have your phone with you). If you have previously enabled the Autopay service for the A4 Motorway (in accordance with the above instructions) - the toll will be charged automatically as the camera system reads your registration number. Please note that you cannot make any changes to your account during the journey, including deleting the vehicle and changing the payment method.

The system covers cars of all categories - with Polish and foreign registration numbers. If you are driving a motorbike, you cannot use videotolling, as the cameras are unable to read the registration numbers on the back of the motorbike.

If, when setting up your Autopay account, you notice that yours is not in the list of available makes and models, select 'Other' from the list.

If you want to lend someone a car that you have added to your Autopay account and you don't want to pay for it on the A4 motorway - be sure to turn off the Autopay service for this section. To do this, uncheck the slider next to the A4 Katowice-Krakow (graphic above).

Yes, the Autopay app is free for private accounts supporting up to two vehicles. When using it to pay for motorway journeys, you will not incur any additional costs beyond the standard toll. For details, please see price list.

Yes. You can also use automatic payments on the A1 Gdańsk-Toruń section of the AmberOne Motorway, where the videotolling system also operates.
